Khaneukhola Quartzite Mine

0

The Khaneukhola quartzite mine, operated by Mr. Ugyen Dorji under M/s Druk Ugyen Export House, has been active since 1999, producing quartzite lumps for construction, primarily exported to India and Bangladesh. The mine was leased under agreements with the Department of Geology & Mines (DGM), with the most recent lease covering 2011 to 2016. Due to market fluctuations, the mine wasn't fully exploited, leaving significant reserves. In 2018, DGM requested a revised topographical survey and geological assessment for a Final Mine Feasibility Study (FMFS). The revised plan targets a production of 52,000 MT per annum for the next five years, with systematic bench development from the top of the existing mine. The mine is located 2.8 km north of Lhamoizingkha town, in Deorali Gewog, Dagana Dzongkhag.

The Khaneukhola quartzite mine is accessible via a 1 km approach road from the new Lhamoizingkha-Dagana highway, starting 4.4 km from Lhamoizingkha town. The mine lease area spans 18.83 acres and is entirely within State Forest Land. The geographical coordinates of the lease area are between 26° 44' 40.10" - 26° 44' 51.59" N latitude and 89° 51' 26.42" - 89° 51' 37.99" E longitude. Infrastructural facilities like the workers' camp, site office, and store will be set up within the mining leasehold area, in the same locations as during the previous lease tenure.
